Hot Wheels' Porsche Game is Strong Right Now, but Matchbox has some Gems Too!

Unlike most love triangles, the Hot Wheels/Porsche/Magnus Walker love triangle happening right now is turning out well. 2017 will see a 993 GT2 in Orange with lace wheels to match the 934's 2014 debut livery. The Car Culture Track Day mix is set to feature a brand new 964 casting and the 4th iteration of the 935/78. We also finally got a Hot Wheels Porsche 356 this year. It's safe to say Porsche is a craze at Hot Wheels right now, and I'm eating up every release. But what about Mattel's other brand?

Matchbox does Porsches right too. As with other models, they tend to take a bit more of a 'stock' look to their castings than Hot Wheels does. As clean as the Hot Wheels 917, 935, 993, 934 and announced 964 are, they're all racing cars. The Matchbox castings we're looking at today are not race cars. They're civilian cars. And most of them are mom and pop type Porsches, like the Cayman, Cayenne and Panamera, if we can say there's such thing as a working man's Porsche at all.

There are many, many great Matchbox Porsche castings out there. Off the top of my head, the 914 really stands out. I can't show them all off in one post, so here's a (slightly random) collection of Matchbox Porsches I've recently picked up and cracked open!

Happy Collecting!!

  1. MBX' Porsche game is strong. I hate the Panamera in 1:1 but somehow love the MBX casting. I put it in the same league as modern MBX classics with the Audi RS6 Avant and the Tesla Model S
